Getting to Know a City through Its Music
This next experience came about in a pretty random way. We were in the middle of a wine tour in Porto, Portugal and I was trying to think about a new experience for my 10in10 that we could while in Porto.
As we were walking, we came across the bars where locals gather around to hear Fado, a music genre that has a rich history. As soon as I heard about this, I knew I wanted to try it.
We ended up going to a bar for some wine tasting and they had a Fado singer there. The live performance was great, not just because of the music but because we were told the history behind Fado and its popularity in modern times.
This experience also reminded me of the countless opportunities we all have to hear a local band or some local concert and how great that can be. I’m looking forward to finding similar experiences back home in Vancouver.
